Enviros parent posts strong financials for 2008
05-Mar-09Support services and construction firm Carillion plc has posted recession-busting figures, showing a 32% revenue increase to £5.2 billion and a 55% jump in pre-tax profits to reach £157.5 million. Its public private partnerships are creating significant value for the group, while the Middle East businesses have also been a key driving force.
Another strategic highlight has been the "successful integration" of UK contractor Alfred McAlpine (including the Enviros environmental consultancy business) acquired by Carillion a year ago, which has delivered cost savings of £15 million in 2008. Further cost-savings of £35 million in 2009 and £50 million in 2010 are anticipated.
Carillion also notes that the McAlpine acquisition has created "a well balanced and more resilient business", with a £20.4 billion forward order book at the end of 2008 (compared to £16 billion in 2007).
