SLR expands in Europe
23-Mar-09The £54 million turnover UK-based environmental consultancy has signed a collaborative agreement with a leading operator in Greece, EPEM, to provide environmental and engineering consulting services across the Balkans.
The partnership has already secured its first project in the region, winning the tender as part of a wider consortium to implement a waste management infrastructure system in Western Macedonia for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Public Management and Decentralisation. The €1.2 million consultancy programme is claimed to be the first major public-private partnership (PPP) contract in Greece.
EPEM employs some 45 consultants in its Athens office and has a strong reputation for services to the waste management sector. It has a number of regional and local partners in other Balkan countries. SLR director Andy Street commented: “As the need to divert waste from landfill moves up the agenda in this region, we anticipate further investment in waste contract and related infrastructure initiatives similar to the one we have secured together in Western Macedonia.”
The tie-up with EPEM mirrors an agreement announced last year between SLR and Abu Dhabi-based EDESSA Emirates Engineering Consultants (EA newslink, 22-Sep-08).
SLR Consulting has also recently extended its services across Ireland with the opening of a new office in Belfast.
