RTFO pushing CO2 up not down, says FoE
Far from cutting carbon dioxide emissions, the requirement for petrol and diesel suppliers to use a minimum amount of biofuels is leading to an increase, according to Friends of the Earth. A study conducted for the group by Scott Wilson concluded that emissions may hav doubled since the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation came into effect a year ago - because forest in areas like the Amazon is being cut down to replace food crops that have been displaced by biofuel crops. FoE says the RTFO should be scrapped.
