The evisceration of the housebuilding sector has hit contaminated land practices hard, with firms heavily dependent on private sector developers and house builders suffering badly. Many consultancies have laid off significant numbers of staff, while others are implementing three-day weeks to avoid lay-offs where they can. Some have even been forced out of business.
