They say that establishing a business during a recession can be a help rather than a hindrance, since businesses forged during hard times are inherently stronger. Whether there is any good evidence to support this argument is not clear, but it may be a comforting notion for Stephanie Wray. As managing director of Hyder Consulting’s UK environment business, Ms Wray views herself as building something of a new business, albeit one that sits within a large, well-established consultancy.
