MottMac wins Lake Victoria enviro planning contract
15-Jul-09The Lake Victoria Basin Commission has commissioned Mott MacDonald to develop “an investment plan and technical solutions” for the next phase of a water and sanitation improvement programme focused on Africa's largest – and the world's second largest - freshwater lake.
Mott MacDonald will focus on how to improve the environmental and aquatic health of Lake Victoria as well as provide designs for water, sanitation, solid waste and drainage infrastructure. The area covered by the improvement programme will focus on 15 towns, all with a population of between 50-100,000, and which are located in five different countries – Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Lake Victoria is thought to support a population of about 30 million people.
The work will require Mott MacDonald to liaise closely with local communities, government and water regulators. The project is due for completion in December.
