MWH & Halcrow join forces for Glasgow sustainable drainage project
21-Jul-09
The programme is “arguably the most comprehensive of its kind”, according to MWH, and will focus on flood risk management, improvements to water and habitat quality, surface water management and integration of multi-agency investment plans. The contract runs until April 2012.
MWH and Halcrow have been employed by the Glasgow Strategic Drainage Partnership (GSDP), which itself represents a group of organisations with responsibility for dealing with drainage and flooding. Members of the GSDP include Glasgow City Council, Scottish Water, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and other local authorities and development agencies. Together, they have developed a 25-year-plan to deal with the challenge of improving drainage in the Glasgow area.
Issues dealt with in the plan include the legacy of flooding in 2002, pollution in the inner Clyde estuary, the need for improved waste water treatment for the greater Glasgow region as well as drainage work to support the Commonwealth Games, due to be held in Glasgow in 2014.
