Fair weather ahead for ecology consultancy

While not booming, many ecology divisions within multidisciplinary environmental consultancies have been surviving recession reasonably well, thanks to the growing importance afforded biodiversity regulation as well as continuing demand for field work from the public sector, wind farm developers and other energy clients. Ecology practices within UK environmental consultancies have been holding up well during recession, with work often driven by wind farm projects and an increasing awareness of legislative requirements relating to biodiversity on the part of both planning authorities and developers. Ecology fee rates rose substantially in the years running up to recession and although times are tougher now, ecology has not experienced a collapse in demand as has contaminated land-related consultancy.
