Flood protection funding needed post-2011, warns Mouchel

16-Nov-09

The government must extend its funding commitments for flood protection beyond the current limit of 2011 if the Environment Agency's new flood protection targets are to be met, Mouchel has warned.

The Agency's new five-year corporate strategy, announced last week, includes plans to increase flood protection to 200,000 homes and businesses by 2015 (Environment Analyst 12-Nov-09). But the current round of government funding for flood schemes ends in 2011 and "it is unclear where future financial support will come from", warns Jonathan Wright, director of flooding and environmental management.
