Rapid integration achieved by SKM Enviros
03-Feb-10
SKM Enviros is the new name for the combined water, environment, and health and safety businesses in Europe of Sinclair Knight Mertz (SKM) and Enviros. Group rebranding and restructuring has been unveiled this week just three months after SKM's acquisition of Enviros from Carillion plc for £27 million (Environment Analyst, 13-Oct-09).
An exclusive interview with SKM chief operating officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Peter MacKellar, is included in the latest issue of Environment Analyst Market Briefing.
A combined team of more than 500 SKM Enviros consultants will work alongside other SKM staff as part of the 6,500-strong global multidisciplinary engineering, sciences and project delivery firm, which includes a total of 1,600 professionals focussed on the environment and water sectors worldwide.
Headquartered in Australia, SKM is an employee-owned firm with turnover in excess of £500 million. Primarily based in the UK, Enviros brings significant capabilities in climate change and energy, waste management and sustainability.
MacKellar is currently leading the SKM Enviros business, having overseen the integration of the two companies since the acquisition last October. Meanwhile, Peter Young has been appointed strategy manager for SKM Enviros, a similar role to the one held with Enviros under the Carillion stable.
Speaking with Environment Analyst, MacKellar revealed that SKM's strategy for integrating Enviros is different to the firm's usual approach: "We’ve undertaken many mergers and acquisitions over the last fifteen years or so, and normally our approach is to move to SKM branding as soon as possible. We don’t generally have a family of brands that co-exist, unlike some competitor firms. But as our largest and most strategically-significant acquisition to date, Enviros is a little different because of the strength and significance of its brand in the marketplace. We would be foolish to lose that name and recognition".
The full text of the interview with Mackellar, in which he discusses SKM's strategy for integration, the impact of recession and what he sees as the main market opportunities for SKM Enviros, is available to subscribers in the latest edition of Environment Analyst Market Briefing
