Metoc wins Western Isles-Scottish mainland interconnector contract

Environmental engineering consultancy Metoc has been commissioned by a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern to support delivery of the HVDC subsea electricity interconnectors cable between the Western Isles and the Scottish mainland. The interconnector cable will convey renewably-generated electricity from the islands of Lewis and Harris to the mainland and into the UK national grid. Commenting on the contact win, head of Metoc’s marine planning and operations team, Eric Briar, said: “This, together with our work with the other transmission system owners in the UK, highlights the key role Metoc continues to play in the planning and delivery of improvements to the UK grid system in the marine environment”.
