S&P and Point Carbon to offer carbon credit risk evaluation

Financial market intelligence firm Standard & Poor's (S&P) has joined forces with carbon analysts Point Carbon to offer clients a risk evaluation service for carbon offset projects

Still under development, the tentatively-named carbon offset risk assessment (Copra) will assist forward purchasers of carbon credits in judging the risks posed by offset projects. Speaking with Environment Analyst, S&P's global head of carbon markets, Michael Wilkins, explained that Copra will help investors in carbon offset projects identify those least likely to be rejected by regulators, thereby decreasing purchasers' chances of backing projects that do not, in the end, deliver promised acrredited carbon savings.
