Cowi supports South Carolina offshore wind plans

Preliminary work designed to assess the potential for wind energy development off the south eastern American state of South Carolina has included consultancy input from Cowi. Three of the Danish-owned consultancy's subsidiaries - Ocean and Coastal Consultants, Flint & Neill, and Ben C Gerwick – have contributed to a project aimed at the construction of an offshore meteorological tower. As yet, there are no offshore wind farms in US waters, however, South Carolina's largest utility, Santee Cooper, has begun the process of gathering necessary meteorological data with a view to constructing 22 offshore wind turbines. The Palmetto wind research project also involves Carolina Coastal University and South Carolina Energy Office.
