UK water industry chooses SKM Enviros & Burges Salmon for IED research

SKM Enviros and law firm Burges Salmon will work together on a study examining the impact of the incoming EU industrial emissions directive (IED) on the UK water industry. The work has been commissioned by UK Water Industry Research, which manages the collective research needs of UK water companies. It will aim to quantify the IED's potential impacts in the UK and to recommend how regulatory and financial burdens “might be minimised consistent with full compliance,” says SKM Enviros. A key aspect of the research will be assessment of the differences between UK interpretation of EU industrial pollution legislation and how such legislation is interpreted in other parts of the EU, in order to identify potential opportunities for improvement. The study is scheduled for completion in 2011.
