Improving energy efficiency crucial for Turkey, says IEA

A review of Turkey's energy policies by the International Energy Agency (iea) has concluded that improving the country's energy efficiency, particularly in relation to buildings and transport, must be a key feature of its future energy policy.

Energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in Turkey have more than doubled since 1990, says the IEA, and are likely to continue to increase rapidly over the medium and long term, in parallel with energy demand. It urges Turkey to consider setting a quantitative overall target for limiting emissions.

Recently, an MWH-led consortium won a major contract from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to launch and operate a credit line for energy efficient investments in Turkey (Environment Analyst 15-Jul-10).
