A catchment flood risk assessment and management (Cfram) study for Ireland's longest river, the Shannon, has been been won by Jacobs Engineering. A full range of structural and non-structural options to reduce flood risk will be considered, including the construction of new flood defences, water level management and introduction of a system of flood warnings. Commissioned by the Irish Office of Public Works (OPW), the study will assist Ireland in meeting a 2015 deadline set by the EU directive on the assessment and management of flood risk.
