SLR's uncluttered design for Cornwall EfW facility helps secure planning approval

The architectural features proposed for an energy-from-waste plant in Cornwall helped to secure its approval by secretary of state Eric Pickles, according to SLR Consulting. SLR architect, David Butterworth, designed the plant, with his plans commended by a government-appointed planning inspector for their quality.

Permission was granted by Pickles for construction of the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre, near St Austell, in May. Cornwall Council had previously turned down the proposal, submitted by waste firm Sita. Sita appealed to the UK Planning Inspectorate and an inquiry was held last year.
