Government launches carbon footprinting standard

A standard that enables businesses to measure the embodied greenhouse gas emissions associated with products and services was launched today by DEFRA, the Carbon Trust and BSI British Standards. The standard measures emissions across a product's entire life cycle, from sourcing raw materials to manufacture, use and disposal, and could help companies find ways to cut emissions in the design, making and supplying of products. A guide to the standard is also available. the standard has been tested by a number of major companies, many of which are retailers or food and drink manufacturers.
