ERM – at the cutting edge of strategic environmental consulting

One of the sector’s founding members, ERM has been active in environmental consultancy for over 35 years and is probably the best known brand in the business globally. It has earned a reputation for working at the high end of the market, focusing on large multinational clients and major international infrastructure and development projects. However, the growing activities of management and strategy consultants in the sustainability/CSR arena could threaten ERM’s dominance in the premium corporate environmental services, according to Environment Analyst’s latest Company Analysis Report.

In terms of future opportunities for ERM, the report says that the consultancy stands to benefit from increased pressure on international funding bodies and financial institutions to be more accountable and transparent in their project investment decisions, by demonstrating how they are going to manage and deliver on the findings of environmental impact statements. “ERM is well placed to add value in this area,” states Environment Analyst, as EIA work increasingly moves towards the next level. This trend, coupled with rising commodity prices and scarcity of natural resources, will see ERM doing an increasing amount of work for energy and mining firms on an international basis.
