URS/AMEC consortium wins Sellafield contract
27-Nov-08URS Corporation's Washington Division is leading an international team which has entered into a contractual arrangement with the UK Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) to become the new parent body organisation responsible for the management and operations of the Sellafield nuclear sites in north west England. The consortium named Nuclear Management Partners (NMP) Ltd, also includes URS's fellow project management and engineering services consultant AMEC plc and French nuclear specialist AREVA.
In what could become the biggest procurement deal ever signed by the UK government, NMP will manage a scope of work - including commercial operations, waste management, support services, decontamination and decommissioning, as well as new construction projects - with a maximum total value of £1.3 billion over five years. There is an option to extend the contract periodically for a total of 17 years. The contract also specifies a performance and efficiency-related fee of approximately £50 million per year.
