Enviros enters new phase under Carillion

Enviros company analysis report

Management changes have not been entirely plain sailing, reveals Environment Analyst's latest company analysis report

05-Dec-08

Less than two years after its takeover by Alfred McAlpine, Enviros has faced further management changes following the takeover in turn of its parent by Carillion.

Though its landmark 1997 acquisition of Aspinwall & Co, Enviros has more than three decades of experience in the sector, developing significant capabilities in climate change, energy and waste management advisory services. It has over 500 staff mainly based in the UK, but can service clients in more than 50 countries through CAT Alliance, a joint-venture established in 2002 with two other European consultancies (COWI of Denmark and Tauw of the Netherlands) that focuses on environmental due diligence advisory services.

Previously owned by private shareholders and venture capitalist ECI, Enviros was bought and taken public by infrastructure and support services group Alfred McAlpine plc in February 2007 in a deal worth £30 million. Enviros has since undergone further ownership transition through the takeover of McAlpine by construction services giant Carillion plc, which completed a year later. However, the management changes have been far from smooth, as the latest Company Analysis from Environment Analyst reveals.

“The key to making the integration of Enviros a successful one will now very much depend on Carillion’s approach to managing its niche consulting operations side-by-side to deliver added value to clients,” states the report. For instance, there may be significant synergies for Enviros in working in partnership with another Carillion group company, TPS, which is a multidisciplinary engineering, project management and architecture design firm. The Enviros bottom line has already received a boost this year from the integration of McAlpine’s health and safety solutions business, which sits well alongside its environmental management services.

However, a question mark remains over Carillion’s ultimate commitment to the environmental consultancy business based on its past history in the sector – download the report to find out more.
