Grontmij's German business has been awarded a contract to support plans to upgrade the combined heat and power plant (CHP) at Munich airport. The plant's existing gas-diesel engines will be used in future for emergency back-up supply, with new, more-efficient engines installed to provide 24MW of power, which can be raised to 32MW, if necessary. Staff based in Grontmij's offices in Karlsruhe, Munich and Cologne will work on the project. The consultancy has been appointed general engineer and will also prepare the project's planning application. The upgraded CHP plant is due to begin operating in 2016.
