BMT to design support vessel for UK offshore wind...

A subsidiary of BMT Group has been hired by Turbine Transfers to design a “new series of multi-purpose wind farm support vessels”. Based in Holyhead, Turbine Transfers provides support vessels to the offshore wind industry and has commissioned BMT Nigel Gee Ltd to both design new boats and to develop an efficient and cost effective “production methodology”. The first of the new vessels will be a 19 metre boat offering far greater flexibility than existing support vessels, including the capacity to be “quickly reconfigured”. Commenting on the contract, BMT stated: “This partnership will bring together BMT Nigel Gee’s outstanding design capability with Turbine Transfer’s years of operational expertise to ensure the best possible layout for the various potential tasks”. Construction of the first vessel will begin soon with completion expected in 2011.
