Aecom to investigate Thames crossing options

The UK Department for Transport has chosen Aecom to review options for new crossings of the lower reaches of the river Thames, thereby assisting in the development of a long-term strategy for lower Thames crossing capacity. The year-long project will include environmental studies alongside other issues, such as highway engineering. A public consultation is planned by DfT for 2013. Existing crossings of the lower Thames are the Dartford tunnels, built in 1963 and 1980 and the Queen Elizabeth Bridge, which opened to traffic in 1991.
