Role description

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Consultant / Consents Managers to join RSK’s substantial and growing presence in supporting the planning and construction phase of development projects in Britain. You will be part of our integrated environmental management and assessment team and be based on site in Milton Keynes with periodic visits to our regional offices in Hemel Hempstead, where your line manager will be based.

The key responsibilities for an Environment and Consents Management include:

  • Provide the project with sustainability and environmental leadership, including assisting with environmental awareness training of professional staff, construction managers and operatives
  • Compliance with client’s sustainability and environmental policies, objectives and more detailed requirements, including any Environmental Management System in place, and make sure that they are implemented throughout the construction and commissioning stages of the project
  • Update, review and ensure compliance with the project Environmental Management Plan, Site Waste Management Plan, Transport Management Plan and other relevant environmental management plans and other associated documentation
  • Carry out regular environmental audits of designs and construction activities
  • Maintain project consents register and ensure all required consents are applied for in accordance with the project programme
  • Manage and co-ordinate the application, negotiation and implementation of all necessary environment-related consents, including highways and traffic issues
  • Support the client public liaison strategy attending meetings and consultations as necessary
  • Prepare applications, including working with a range of technical specialists that will be needed to support certain applications
  • Regularly communicate with your line manager and wider team
  • Compile and present sustainability, environmental and consents performance reports, as appropriate, in line with project environmental management plan.
  • Effectively deal with statutory consultees, interest groups and the general public.

Desired experience and qualities:

We anticipate that the appropriate period will have over 5 years’ experience gained with the planning and construction industry. Experience could have been gained in consultancy, regulation or the third sector. A willingness to be site-based and to see a project through construction and into operation is necessary. Ambition and a desire to learn and expand your experience is desirable.

The role will suit someone who has worked on construction projects projects before and has a good understanding of typical environmental contractual and regulatory requirements and ensuring that these are implemented. All successful candidates are likely have a strong health and safety ethos, good personal management, communication and negotiation skills and an appreciation of what is practical and achievable.

Additionally, suitable experienced candidates will also need: 

  • BSc degree level qualified in a relevant discipline (preferably MSc qualified in Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Management or related subject).
  • A general appreciation of environmental issues e.g. ecology, noise, air quality;
  • Professional membership preferable e.g. AIEMA or equivalent, and/or Environmental Auditing qualification;
  • CSCS card;
  • Working knowledge of UK legislation;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good team player, with the ability to work autonomously; and
  • Enthusiastic and well organised.

It is anticipated that the position will be split between site and RSKs Hemel Hempstead or Tonbridge office. Working hours can be flexible and we are interested in both part-time and full-time applicants.
