Peel Holdings under review for land clearance

Residents complained to Natural England and local MP for Bury North James Frith after they were given no prior warning.

Mr Frith contacted Peel Holdings demanding an explanation for the "environmental vandalism" and has also alerted Natural England to the activity. The regulator is now investigating the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Natural England believe the land and work undertaken falls within the scope of the Environmental Impact Assessment (Agriculture) (England) Regulations 2006 (as amended), and are currently investigating the environmental significance of the works and assessing what, if any, enforcement action should be taken."
