The preferred route for the A358 is expected to be revealed in spring 2019, according to Highways England’s (HE) project manager for the scheme David Stock.
Earlier this year members of the public provided feedback on proposals to dual the route, which, alongside the A303, provides a vital link between London, the South East and the South West. Three route options were presented as part of the consultation which saw over 1,500 groups and individuals respond.
HE has since been analysing the feedback, which revealed that further engineering and economic evaluation of the project would be required to help ensure the right route is selected. It also announced that new engagement activities with community representative would begin early in the new year, ensuring local people are kept informed of progress.
Stock commented: "The A303/A358 corridor is a vital connection between London, the South East and the South West, and we are committed to improving it, but we have to ensure we have the best solution possible."
