Jacobs wins major roads contract

Jacobs has been awarded a major contract by Highways England to design and build roads in the north and east of England.

The contract is part of the Regional Investment Programme for Road Period 1 (2015-2020) and Road Period 2 (2020-2025). The 10-year programme to increase safety, increase capacity and improve user experience will be delivered by Jacobs with the Costain Group.

Donald Morrison, Jacobs Europe senior vice president and general manager, said that company’s strategic relationship with Costain continues to develop. He added: "We welcome the opportunity to deliver regional needs and look forward to building on our work with Highways England and to support its ambition to create a modern strategic road network."

Providing integrated solutions to infrastructure projects including transport planning and modelling and environmental solutions, Jacobs has a turnover of more than $10bn a year and employs more than 77,000 people in more than 400 locations around the world.

In the UK, it is delivering national infrastructure and regional Investment projects for Highways England and its smart motorway programme. It is also working for Transport Scotland and the Welsh Government. Highways England is responsible for 4,300 miles of motorways and major A roads
