EA’s 2018 flood action campaign targets young homeowners

The Environment Agency’s (EA) 2018 Flood Action Campaign aims to inform young tenants and homeowners about flood protection.

The campaign is aimed at people aged 18 - 34, particularly those in rental properties and those with young families. The campaign encourages people to prepare for flooding by reading its Prepare, Act, Survive flood plan. The plan outlines what to do in a flood as well as defining the three levels of flood warning: flood alert, flood warning and severe flood warning.

As part of the campaign the EA has joined forces with the British Red Cross to highlight that:

  • 18- 34 year olds are least aware of flooding dangers in their area
  • Over 50% of 18 - 34 year olds would not know what to do in an emergency
  • That the mental health impacts of flooding can last for over two years.
