Arup & CPI research novel approach to CCS

A method of capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from power stations and using it to grow algae that could then become the base material for a range of bio-based products is being investigated by Arup and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI). The technique could be used to manufacture bioethanol, biopharmaceuticals, methane-rich biogas and/or compost, argues Arup. The idea to use waste CO2 to grow algae biomass originated during Arup's work on the Dongtan eco-city project.
