Amec wins EDF contract for four nuclear plants

Amec has signed a major contract with EDF to support the energy company's architect engineering operation for the proposed delivery of four new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point and Sizewell in the UK. The contract will run for 11 years, with an option to extend for a further four. The plants will be European pressurised water reactors (EPRs), a design developed by Areva and EDF that, says Amec, features improved fuel technology and thermal efficiency, passive safety systems and reduced maintenance and capital costs.
