Refurbishment of the US Air Force Civil Engineer Support Agency's headquarters in Florida will be managed by Amec. The $7.1 million contract includes a specification that the refurbishment result in the building achieving silver accreditation under the US Green Building Council's 'leadership in energy and environmental design' (LEED) programme. 'Green' features will include a “one-acre solar photovoltaic field”, a water condensing system, energy-efficient lighting and lighting controls, according to Amec. Prior to refurbishment, a survey designed to identify any asbestos and/or lead-based paint within the building will also be conducted. Design work is due to begin this month with project completion schedule for September 2012.
