Tetra Tech has released its 2018 ‘Sustainability report card’ setting out the company’s sustainable practices and how it is using the latest innovations and technologies throughout its operations and the 64,000 projects it worked on during the past year.

Of particular note, according to the US-based consulting & engineering firm, is its progress in increasing efficiency in its 400 offices worldwide, which has seen a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 55% - surpassing its 2020 goal. Tetra Tech said it has advanced 18 of the 27 metrics it tracks.

2018 also saw Tetra Tech join the United Nations Global Compact, which supports the UN’s efforts to end extreme poverty, fight inequality, and address climate change.

In addition to the restating and advancing its environmental commitments, the 18,000-strong firm also updated many of its social and governance initiatives, including its diversity and inclusion efforts. Other key areas highlighted include its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program which reached nearly 6,600 students, and its support of Engineers Without Borders.

Tetra Tech chairman and CEO Dan Batrack commented: "We believe in working as sustainably in our offices as we do for our clients. We continue to improve the sustainability of our more than 400 offices worldwide through measures such as energy-efficient lighting, programmable thermostats, and low-flow water systems. We have greatly reduced paper use across our operations, with nearly 89 percent of our offices now fully engaged in electronic reporting.

"We further demonstrate our commitment to our associates and strong relationship with our vendors by continuing to enhance our social and governance initiatives, including our supply chain management, corporate code of conduct, and diversity & inclusion programs."

But he also acknowledges there is further to go, stating: "Although we have made great strides over the past year - meeting and exceeding our goals and broadening our positive impact on the world - we can do more. Tetra Tech will continue to dedicate resources and expertise to deliver the most sustainable and resilient solutions for its clients - enhancing the world through its projects, social programs, and commitment to sustainable practices."
