Environment Analyst invites you to their event

What if… taking an inclusivity-led approach to design can help us solve our sustainability challenges?

About this event

In this Sustainability Delivery Group Expert Talk, Lynsey Clarke, Director of Sustainability at Jacobs, will be joined by Maria Kouridou, Senior Urban Planner; Andrew Linfoot, Director of Landscape Architecture; and Rachael Blake, People and Transformation Lead in Jacobs’ Major Projects team. The panel will explore how we can place inclusivity at the heart of integrated design visions and objectives to not only influence the way we think about and approach placemaking, but also to help us drive social value and positive environmental outcomes.

This will include thinking about what we mean by ‘inclusive,’ linking to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and considering the role this plays in achieving sustainable outcomes. Drawing on Jacobs' experience, the talk will present some of the key challenges around equality and inclusion in placemaking, perspectives on good practice, the potential benefits of a more inclusive solutions-focused approach - and how by applying this we might also more successfully respond to environmental challenges such as air quality, net zero and climate resilience.

Lynsey’s role also extends to supporting the implementation of Jacobs’ own sustainability strategy, PlanBeyond, and our Climate Action Plan throughout our European business and across our project partnerships and delivery.

Maria Kouridou, Senior Urban Designer, Jacobs

Maria is a passionate engineer and urban designer with experience on a variety of projects and scales, in particular masterplanning and urban design strategies. Her focus has been in analysing the physical, political, economic, spatial and social context of places, developing a ‘strategic inclusive vision’ and urban design guidance and strategies for the management, planning and sustainable development of cities that create the best platform to shape places. She has received awards for concept masterplans designs at international competitions, and is regularly invited as an external advisor on postgraduate University College London students’ projects.

Andrew Linfoot, Director of Landscape Architecture and Global Technology Lead for Landscape Architecture, Jacobs

In his role, Andrew focuses on strategy, driving innovation, connectivity across technologies and people, and delivering excellence. As a landscape architect and urban designer, Andrew leads multi-disciplinary design teams, advising clients on projects from feasibility stage through design to implementation and construction. He specialises in the landscape and environmental design of large-scale infrastructure projects, and is able to think across the disciplines, understanding the inter-relationships and the need for a comprehensive and collaborative approach to developing successful and sustainable solutions.

Rachael Blake, People and Transformation Lead, Jacobs

Rachael works as part of the Major Programmes team at Jacobs and has been inputting to a major rail programme in a range of different people, performance excellence and stakeholder engagement roles. In addition to her work at Jacobs, Rachael has been an elected member (councillor) at Doncaster Council since 2015, and since 2017 she has been a Cabinet Member; she currently has responsibility for children’s social care equalities and communities. Rachael has over 30 years’ experience in community engagement with many different communities, ages and backgrounds, and she is trained in Asset Based Community Development.
