Summary Associate with experience of undertaking and subsequently managing ground investigation for contamination and geotechnical purposes. You are required to manage the London based ground investigation team and develop this area of the business.

Your Role

Reporting to a senior member of the London Geo-Environment discipline and working in a diverse geo-environmental site investigation environments (rail, roads, airports, industrial, farm, re-development, gas works......)  you will be responsible for tendering, organisation, line management, financial management, supervision and factual reporting of contracts up to £500k, the management of health and safety on site leading WYG’s role as Principal Contractor including liaison with WYG SHEQ team, logging of soil and rock in accordance with BS5930:1999, Amendment 1, BS EN ISO 14688 and BS EN ISO 14689 and the training of staff to log soil and rock.


A key part of this role is also to further develop this business stream in the southeast by identifying and pursuing new clients and opportunities with a view to increasing the team size and turnover at a steady rate.

You will also have responsibility for training junior staff, factual reporting and the review of factual reports and data.

The role will also include the management of a sub/satellite office and stores, you will be responsible for liaison with WYG properties team and business centre management, day to day running of the office/stores, management of office/stores health and safety including liaison with WYG SHEQ team.

About You

With a First degree or equivalent in geology, civil engineering or related subject, you will have experience in procurement, management, supervision and reporting of geo-environmental site investigation works in the UK including a demonstrable track record in leading contracts up to £500k in value.

You will be familiar with industry standard specifications for ground investigation, have Contract Administration skills, knowledge of industry standard contracts e.g ICC and NEC and experience of a range of infrastructure projects including rail & highways. Technical experience in core ground investigation techniques and experience in non-core techniques e.g. specialist surface and downhole in-situ testing including geophysics.

A proven track record in health and safety legislation, the review of health and safety documentation, experience of conducting ground investigations in urban environments and knowledge and experience in environmental management as applied to ground investigation site operations. Demonstrable experience in coaching junior staff to develop their skills and abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a full UK driving licence is required.

Experience across a range of sectors and geographical locations and in particular experience of working in London and the South East are desirable.
