Role Overview

This is a significant opportunity to play a senior role within a well-established, respected and growing business.  You will lead our UK Environmental Assessment Business Unit with responsibility for overall team performance, fee income and growth in line with budget, headcount growth, working capital management and development of new services and skills.  The range of services available through Environmental Assessment includes Acoustics, Air Quality, EIA, Ecology, Archaeology, Policy and Risk & Safety and is currently made up of around 180 staff.   Key customers include EDF, Nugeneration, Heathrow Airport and National Grid.

Key accountabilities in this role will be to:

  • Lead, develop, grow and deploy our multi sector multi skilled team of environmental professionals
  • Support our growth strategy particularly in the SE of England and help us maintain and grow our footprint in UK major infrastructure projects
  • Take leadership in partnering and alliancing within the environmental consultancy
  • Invest in the development of new products and services responding to customers’ emerging needs

Role Requirements

This role requires excellent people skills, a strong track record in managing client relations and business management skills to take responsibility for the overall growth and safe delivery of our Environmental Assessment business.  You will lead and inspire a large and highly motivated group of staff in EA, and will have the opportunity to act as a role model to everyone throughout the business given the managerial status of the role. You will therefore have the opportunity to adopt, develop and adapt, select, build and deploy a team dedicated to the delivery of your strategy for EA in the context of the agreed overall business strategy .You will work with Business Unit and Sector Group Directors and members of the wider CRM team, guiding, influencing and partnering with them to penetrate potential growth in our chosen markets in line with Amec Foster Wheeler E&I UK Limited overall strategy.  Strong influencing and communication skills are therefore essential.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a role with similar responsibilities in the UK with a relevant competitor, will have a track record in major infrastructure projects, will have built up effective relationships with clients and potential partners and will have a clear understanding of the range of services which Amec Foster Wheeler E&I UK and EA promotes to its customers.

It is essential that you have a clear understanding of the challenges of managing a group of Environmental consultants and you will have played a senior role within a relevant competitor of Amec Foster Wheeler E&I UK. You must be able to demonstrate a sharp understanding of project financial management and working capital management and be competent in utilising management information systems. Forecasting, workflow management and staff management are all key competencies for the role as is the ability to build and lead a Business Unit management team to act under delegated authority. Keen commercial skills and a strong track record in consultancy selling is essential. You will have sound, mature judgment, always act fairly and be able to tackle difficult issues head on and achieve successful outcomes.
