From Take-off to Landing: Pioneering PFAS Remediation Enables Residential Redevelopment at a Private Airport

This Brownfield & Regeneration Network webinar will delve into an award-winning collaborative effort between REGENESIS and Mott MacDonald, marking a pioneering stride in the sustainable remediation of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) contamination.

Utilising an innovative in situ PlumeStop barrier treatment, this project achieved a significant milestone in environmental remediation by effectively addressing PFAS contamination at an airport in England. It represents the first application of its kind in the UK, showcasing injectable permeable reactive barrier that enabled site divestment and redevelopment.

The approach not only underscores the technical feasibility and environmental benefits of addressing complex contaminations but also highlights a successful model of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in the field of environmental consulting and remediation.

This project won Best Application of Remediation Technologies at the 2023 Brownfield Awards.

Meet the Speakers

				Jack Shore, Senior District Manager, UK and Scandinavia, REGENESIS Jack Shore is the Senior District Manager for REGENESIS in the UK and Scandinavia. In this role, he is responsible for the business development, solution creation and customer support for a range of environmental consultants, remediation contractors and problem holders. Jack has over a decade of experience in the remediation industry and is responsible for the first ever in situ PlumeStop treatment of PFAS in Europe. His expertise spans supervising site investigations, creating in situ remediation strategies, overseeing site applications and enabling extensive remediation projects involving multiple stakeholders.
				Suzanne Blackman, Principal Contaminated Land Consultant, Mott MacDonald Suzanne Blackman is a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager with 10 years experience in consultancy. Suzanne has developed a broad range of geoenvironmental experience in land contamination and hydrogeological risk assessment and remediation, environmental permitting and environmental impact assessment. Her project experience ranges from national infrastructure projects to housing developments, with a focus on materials management and climate change. She is also part of the SoBRA sub-group for Climate Change and Controlled Waters Risk Assessment.
				Julie Southall, Senior Associate – Land Contamination, Mott MacDonald Julie is a chartered Water and Environmental Manager and chartered Engineer with over 18 years consultancy experience. She has  experience in range of geo-environmental projects from large infrastructure projects, remediation projects, defence and environmental impact assessment. Julie is experienced in detailed ground investigation, human health risk assessment and materials management, she  was a member of the SoBRA sub group for vapour intrusion.
