Connect with environmental professionals from across specialisms and sectors to discuss practical actions to address climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution using a holistic approach.

The Institution of Environmental Sciences (the IES) is at the forefront of uniting the interdisciplinary field of environmental science around a shared goal: to work with speed, vision, and expertise to solve the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, together.

IES members have deep expertise in areas such as air quality, land condition and water. These operate as distinct areas within the IES through our communities and sister organisations. However, environmental issues do not sit in neat boxes. Each specialism interacts with others, and often they use different terminology, assessment methodologies and approaches. This can lead to siloed thinking and difficulties when assessments are brought together through processes such as SEA and EIA, and can lead to sub-optimal environmental outcomes. Unlocking multifunctional solutions to the interlinked crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution are dependent on effective interdisciplinary working, knowledge sharing, and application of systems-thinking approaches.

To bridge some of these gaps we are proud to present the inaugural Dialogue Between Disciplines Conference, a groundbreaking event dedicated to fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing between environmental professionals from across specialisms and sectors. The first conference will focus on facilitating discussion on the triple crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, with the aim of championing solutions and practical action.

Set against the backdrop of these urgent global challenges, our conference invites environmental scientists, practitioners, policy makers, engineers and social scientists from across specialisms to come together in a shared mission to find sustainable solutions.

In recent years we have welcomed new communities to the IES and this is an opportunity to bring together the IES Communities. We welcome leading members from Air Quality, Climate Action, CEDHE, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Land Condition Marine & Coastal, EPIC and Water.
