Position

Are you a commercially minded and innovative Climate Change/Sustainability Specialist, looking for your next exciting opportunity? Do you want to work for a growing and ambitious employee-owned company, and play a key role in our drive to be a positive disruptor in the climate/net zero space?

Are you up for the challenge? If so, we would love to hear from you.

The role

We are looking for someone with vision, technical expertise, a passion for climate change/sustainability and some entrepreneurial flair. Your primary responsibility will be to research and develop Thomson’s unique commercial offering to the market on climate change and sustainability. This will include researching opportunities and developing strategic propositions to enable clients to achieve climate resilience at project and corporate level, and positively contribute to achieving the UK’s 2050 net zero target.

Growth-minded, you will build and lead a team of technical specialists to develop and deliver a targeted suite of climate change and sustainability services including development of predictive/assessment models, data visualisation and corporate training. You will also work with our EIA team to incorporate proportionate assessment of climate change/sustainability into our EIA offering as well as integrating with the wider business. You will proactively seek out opportunities to build relationships with niche consultancies and academic/research institutions to develop an outcome focused, commercial service for clients, across multiple sectors. This is an interesting, high profile role, with autonomy and the opportunity to develop your own practice as well as grow your own team.

Ideal candidates are likely to be currently working at Principal/Associate Director level, with the commercial acumen and entrepreneurial vision to take charge of growth within this new sphere of the business. You will be an engaging communicator, confident when liaising with clients and key stakeholders, as well as design teams and planning authorities. You will be a skilled project manager, delivering projects on time and to budget, to support the business to achieve its ambitious growth plans. You will have detailed knowledge of climate/net zero methodology and best practice, as well as broader sustainability matters.

Requirements

Successful candidates must

  • be a strong team player, with the ability to integrate quickly and engage other technical specialists within the business
  • have the desire to develop and grow a high-performing team
  • have a full UK driving licence, use of a car and be willing to travel using public transport, where appropriate.
