RSK group – the UK’s second largest environmental consultancy by revenue according to Environment Analyst – has acquired the design, engineering and construction specialist MWH Treatment from global asset management firm Oaktree Capital Management. MWH Treatment was formerly owned by Stantec until it was sold in 2018.

MWH Treatment is a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction firm focused predominantly on water reclamation and wastewater treatment plant projects in the UK. It boasts 800 professionals co-located across six major frameworks.

The addition of MWH Treatment continues two years of significant strategic investment in the water sector by RSK, with acquisitions including Water Research Council (WRc) (EA 04-Sep-20), Nicholas O’Dwyer (EA 27-Mar-20) and Binnies (formally the UK and Asia water businesses of Black & Veatch) (EA 18-Dec-20). The combination with the above will provide a formidable competitor to design and build contracts within the UK’s water industry spending programme.

MWH Treatment Managing Director, Paul Bresnan, said: "I am excited for MWH Treatment to be taking this fantastic next step. Being part of RSK will enable us to bring a broader and deeper offering to our clients by leveraging the wider group capabilities."

Alan Ryder, RSK founder and chief executive officer, said: "The water sector is of huge importance to RSK and its strategy, so I couldn’t be more pleased to welcome MWH Treatment into the group. The company’s reputation across the UK is impeccable, and I see countless opportunities for collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the group."
